Family Planning Defunding Motion
A motion introduced proposed to gut the competitive grant process currently required under Wisconsin law (Wis. Admin. Code HFS 151.03(1)) to receive family planning funds, which maximizes family planning resources and patients served. Instead, local health departments and tribal health centers would receive a preference for state family planning funds. By revoking current law that requires family planning funds to be allocated on a competitive bid basis and replacing it with a preference based system, this Motion fails to maximize resources and serve the current patient population needing subsidized family planning services. It also revokes DHFS’ legal authority under Wis. Stat. 253.07 (2) (b) and HFS 151.03 (2)(a), to maximize resources and serve as many patients as possible through the existing family planning network.
