Cervical Cancer Education & Prevention Bill SB 252 & AB 492

Email To A Friend
Cervical cancer kills 3,700 women in the United States each year. A vaccine was recently approved that is 100% effective at preventing human papillomavirus (HPV), a virus that is linked to 99.7% of cervical cancer cases that will infect at least 80% of sexually active females by the age of 50.

This vaccination has been approved FDA and the Center for Disease Control recommends this vaccine as a routine procedure for girls age 11-12 years old. All major insurance companies are planning to cover the cost of this vaccination.

This legislation aims to educate parents and guardians about the availability and importance of the new HPV Vaccine. It directs the Department of Public Instruction, in conjunction with the Department of Health & Family Services to provide educational materials about the vaccine and recommend vaccination for sixth grade girls.
